Happy Abby

Abby loves her comfort, particularly in winter... food, a warm fire and before long she looks like this:

Belly up with a contented smile on her face; she doesn't care that she looks remarkably like a plucked chicken, nor should she.

She, Buddha and Geraldo are curled up in their crates, cuddled up in or on their blankets. Lily isn't crated when we're sleeping since she is remarka fairly well-behaved and her big bark discourages unwelcome visitors. All visitors are unwelcome when we're trying to sleep. She and I have a certain routine this time of day: After I publish this post (or any other, actually) I sit on my stool in front of the fire and Lily sidles up beside me. She waits, more or less patiently, until I begin stroking her curly 'doodle head, sighs, lays her head on my knee, then slowly subsides to the floor.

It is a peaceful, contented moment for the both of us which melts me every time. May your weekend be as filled with contentment. Until Monday night, be well... The Cranky.

A longtime favourite:

  1. Dogs sure know how to relax indeed. Those contentment moments are great.

  2. That is how Bubbie sleeps a lot of time, only he covers his eyes with a paw...

    1. Abby has never done that, Buddha does occasionally... I bet Bubbie looks adorable!

  3. I love a dog like Lily, who knows she's a four legged us, or we're two legged hers; depending on the day of the week and the warmth of the fire.

    1. Oh Lily is definitely a four legged us and (according to her) my second in command.

  4. I didn't know this song. Wow! It gave me the shivers! My favourite of the week. I probably started off shimmering/shining. Lost that for a long time, but seem to have been finding it again after all these years. YOU help! (And Dudo is on my lap, head on my chest, staring up into my eyes, and purring like a motorcycle.)

    1. You definitely shine. And shimmer. Even glow.

Did you know that when dogs and cats stare into your eyes their brains release the same chemical (oxytocin) that ours release when we look into the eyes of our beloved?

  5. What a nice little ritual. Your dogs must feel very secure.

    1. I hope so Andrew, truly. Two of them (Abby and Buddha) had very hard and unhappy lives before we brought them here.

  6. Ahhh, I love the word picture. Those doggy moments are favorites of mine too. Have a happy Valentine's Day.

  7. Wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to 'lax as well as an animal. I wouldn't mind some of their flexibility either.
    Have a great weekend.

    1. Being able to relax like that would be bliss, wouldn't it.

  8. Abby looks so relaxed, blissful even. Wouldn't it be wonderful to not have 'human' cares for just a while, so we could relax like that.

    1. As long as crunchy kitty 'treats' from the litter box didn't become my idea of haute cuisine, lol.

  9. We all need our little routines, don't we? Happy Valentines Day to you and the Great Scot!

  10. All visitors are unwelcome when you're trying to sleep? Well, that makes perfect sense to me.

    Happy Valentine!

  11. Our pets are wonderful, loving companions. I know my two furry rascals are. There's a mutual loving, admiration society going on here between them and me. :)

I hope St. Valentine spreads the love all around. :)

  12. Sorry it took me so long, and that I needed the scoop from you - to visit. I'm way behind in making the rounds. That's mainly because it's been a nice, relaxing, and upbeat weekend. Hugs and warmth, always.

  13. How lovely to live alongside three contented dogs. ;) I want to sit by your fire this morning. Sounds wonderful.

  14. I have an Italian greyhound that looks like a plucked chicken on the underside. I guess on the top side, too. And in body shape. But he's still (somehow) a good snuggle buddy on a cold day.

  15. I feel that same way with my cats, joining me to be petted on my bed, before I fall asleep, with the stars visible through the window, on clear nights.

C'mon, be cranky and let 'er rip!
